PRACTICE
AREAS
EMPLOYMENT LAW -
If you believe you are being discriminated against or harassed at work, the sooner you act, the better. This includes making a complaint in writing to your supervisor, which can be as simple as an email because it creates a time-line. While speaking up and making a complaint can seem intimidating, Massachusetts laws protect employees from being retaliated against by their employers following a complaint.
It is important to retain a record of instances of the harassment or discrimination via emails, calendared journal entries, notes, photographs, letters, etc. Equally important to document, are instances of your positive work performance, such as annual reviews and compliments from your boss, co-workers, and customers or clients. It is also prudent to keep track of your own hours worked, specifically over-time hours, irrespective of whether you are an hourly or salary employee.
Notwithstanding, the best course of action is to seek legal advice, particularly because there are strict filing procedures and statute of limitations associated with employment claims.
FAMILY LAW -
Divorce should be a positive and liberating experience. However, the process of evaluating family-related legal issues can feel overwhelming, confusing, and isolating and it raises questions as to how your children will be raised and how your family home and other assets will be divided. Having someone in your corner to navigate and work through these personal challenges is vital.
Pilalas Law PLLC understands the stresses associated with seeking a divorce. It will work closely with its clients to develop a personalized, organized, and strategic course of action, in order to alleviate the tension and uncertainty.
It is important to retain a family law attorney in any divorce action to build the most powerful case possible by:
-
Gathering the necessary evidence;
-
Presenting it to the court;
-
Examining witnesses when necessary;
-
Making legal arguments before the court;
-
Guiding you through the litigation process; and
-
Keeping you apprised of your rights and options every step of the way.
ESTATE PLANNING -
Estate planning may not be at the top of your “to-do” list, however, if you have a family or if you have a large number of assets, it is critical that you have a Last Will and Testament to ensure your loved ones are cared for and your wishes are met.
Additionally, Pilalas Law PLLC can draft legal documents like Health Care Proxies and Powers of Attorney, which appoint a person or persons to make health and legal decisions on your behalf, if you are rendered unable to.
Finally, Pilalas Law PLLC can assist you in appointing a Guardian for your minor child(ren) so that, in the event of your passing or incapacitation, your kids will be cared for by a person of your choosing. Alternatively, the Court or State Agency could make this precious decision for you.
